My List of Things To Do Today.....

Update blog..........................................Check! :)

Goodbye forever.

Kidding, kidding.

But really, I have been super busy getting projects done - one of which is my loverly garden, which is NOW OFFICIALLY COMPLETED!!

Let me show you what I'm talking about -

Firstly, we have my beautiful, redwood planter that Gerritt made for me, which sits on my deck and is currently full of 2 kind of parsley, 2 kinds of basil, cilantro, chives, lemon thyme, and dill!

Eeeee!! I LOVE this little box with all my heart! And last night's shrimp and pesto linguine with fresh basil and parsley didn't hurt. ;)

Next, we have our sweet little strawberry patch, that is already busy growing fruits. I told Max that he could pick them we they turn red, so he's been super vigilant at checking those little green ones every day!

Moving on, we have our tomato/pepper garden. We've got roma, cherry, and regular tomato plants in here, as well as jalapenos, and red and yellow bell peppers. (One of the peppers got nibbled by some kind of animal, and that's the one in it's own little "tupperware greenhouse".)

I would say that this garden is my favorite and most exciting of all of them - my official Square Foot Garden! The box is only 4' by 4', so it's surprisingly small, BUT, it can yield as much as a full sized garden! You use a special blend of compost, peat moss, and this stuff called vermiculite, and it's seriously grows ANYTHING - and all in these little 1 cubic foot squares! You could even just put one of these guys on your patio and grow a whole garden of veggies!! How cool is that?!

Right now, I've got planted in there, cucumbers, sweet peas, green peppers, spinach, green onions, Japanese eggplant, buttercrunch lettuce, and 4 boxes of an assorted gourmet lettuce! Oh, and I also have sweet corn planted all around that electrical box thingy in the the top right.

And lastly, we have my squash garden (with 2 leftover veggies planted right in the middle....we'll find out if that was a bad idea..) Most of them were just planted with seeds, but we'll have cantaloupe, butternut squash, pumpkins, and zucchini all tangled around in here! With and additional load of green peppers and some lettuce, haha!

Can I just tell you how incredibly HAPPY I am when I'm out in the garden??! LOVE. IT. Even though my fingers are covered in hangnails and I've got badly damaged cuticles, I get so much pure, adulterated, JOY from working out in the dirt!
Now get out there and PLANT, or you'll regret it!
(you really might!)

I never knew you had such a hidden talent. I wish you lived closer so I could get some tips.

Awesome! We did the square foot garden for the first time last year-- worked out well for the space, tho we planted the lettuce too late and the peas didnt survive! Better luck this year!
