Her neighbor just got diagnosed with Leukemia and he has two little girls (a three year old and a one year old). He is currently in the process of looking for a bone marrow donor. The chances of finding a match for him is 1 in 20,000, but there are also so many other people that need bone marrow transplants (especially minorities).
Here's the cool thing -Usually registering as a bone marrow donor costs $56 (the cost is from the extensive research of matching up the donor with the recipient). Well, NASCAR is sponsoring a drive for bone marrow donors which means Sept.7-Sept 22 this process will be absolutely FREE!!
All you do, is clickety here and register, and they will send you a kit with a few cotton swabs to gather some cheek skin cells and send back to them, and then you are officially on the Bone Marrow Donation Registry list! Think how amazing it would be literally SAVE someone's life - with you just doing a simple blood draw procedure?? (They don't do the scary "take some of your bone marrow out of your bones thing anymore)
You can read all the details about it on the site, but I just wanted to let you guys know of what an awesome way to serve! With things going on like what happened with Nie Nie, this is a way to REALLY dive in and help someone! Big G and I just signed up!
And these guys think it's pretty cool too!

I'm relieved to hear it doesn't need to be a painful experience.
If you really want to be cool, you should be a living organ donor. I've signed stuff that says that if a match for my kidney is found, I will give it up willingly. The downside is that you've only got one to give. Yeah!! for donating body parts and not selling them.

Hey Emily - I was looking for your email address and rediscovered your blog. My Dad had a bone marrow transplant 6 months ago and is doing great! Registering in the national bone marrow bank is an awesome thing to do, way to go!
